Moog Information
Important Information for the Moog Servo-Proportional Valve

If you are a user of Moog, Atchley, or Pegasus servo and proportional valves it is important that you understand our repair policy. For a number of years Moog sold its parts to independent servo repair houses. There are number of those organizations around the country with varying degrees of expertise. Since there is no formal benchmark or requirements to be a “servo repair shop” the repair of Moog product was not handled in a manner that was conducive to Moog’s outstanding reputation in the field. These houses do not have the technical performance specification documents required to test the finished repair, therefore it is impossible for a valve to be “brought up to specs” without this information. In addition, a number of these houses do not have the expertise or Moog training to repair our valves or the correct test facilities. If an independent repair house is repairing your Moog, Atchley or Pegasus product he is using either surplus or aftermarket parts. Moog no longer sells genuine parts to anyone for repair. As a result they offer one of the best factory repair services in the world.

Every valve that is sent to the Moog factory for repair carries a 2 year warranty (same as new). The repair is normally turned around in 3-5 days and expedited breakdown next day delivery is possible. Every repair is documented and a historical pedigree is developed so a new repair can be compared to the prior one. Every valve has returned with it a full report on the genuine parts that were replaced and a copy of the test that was performed on the valve. If there are recommendations that can be made to correct problems they will be included on the report.

To return a valve under this program, contact Mark Needham in our sales department. Mneedham@flowdynamics.net. (205)581-1224. Mark will take the required information and facilitate the repair. Once the information is obtained, Mark will give you shipping information in order for you to ship the valve.

Moog has three levels of repair.

Category “A” repair is a clean and calibrate. This includes complete disassembly and inspection for wear and contamination. After reassembly they test, flush, replace filter and base-o rings then test to spec.

Category “B” repair begins with disassembly, and can require a rebuild/replace torque motor and/or rework bushing spool assembly, body and spool. Finally the reassemble to spec as in category “A” repair.

Every valve must be pre-approved for repair to at least a Category “B”. This is from experience with the quote and wait process which can add weeks to the repair procedure. If a valve is not working in most cases a Category “B” repair will occur and is the most economical option. Valve repairs have remained in waiting for months in anticipation of approvals from customers. Therefore the Category “B” pre-approval is required and is the best use of time.

Category “C” repair usually requires replacement or repair of electronics in addition to other parts. This category requires customer approval before proceeding after having been quoted a firm price for the repair. A customer may opt for this if the delivery of a new valve is not acceptable.

When requesting repair from Mark, in most cases he can give you a rough estimate of what a category “B” repair will cost. Keep in mind, approving a Category “B” does not mean you will be charged for a Category “B”. It is simply a not to exceed procedure without customer approval.

There have been a number of misconceptions about Moog not selling parts for their valves and erroneous information being distributed in order to replace our valves with other brands. This decision was not made lightly, but with your our customers in mind. Factory repaired equipment with guaranteed performance and warranty is the best way to insure that the equipment performs in the manner that you expect from Moog. Rest assured that this program is the most reliable and economical way to maintain your Moog servo and proportional valves.
